Google just dropped a pretty big surprise during its opening day I/O keynote. It's taken the wraps off a new edition of Samsung's Galaxy S 4 that runs stock Android Jelly Bean. The device itself is fully unlocked and packing LTE support for AT&T and T-Mobile, along with 16GB of storage and what Google promises will be prompt system updates. Not surprisingly, this won't quite be the budget-friendly off-contract option that the Nexus 4 is -- the phone will run $649 when it hits Google Play on June 26th.
Most of the top stocks from IBD's 33 sectors rose Monday as the major averages reversed higher. But volume among the leaders was well below average.
FleetCor Technologies (FLT), HomeAway (AWAY) and Proto Labs (PRLB) ended recent losing skids, while LinkedIn (LNKD) edged down. All closed near their intraday highs and remained above their key support lines.
FleetCor, which provides fuel cards to commercial vehicle fleets, rose 1.19 to 76.44. It's nearly 5% above a 73 buy point in a three-weeks-tight pattern, pushing the upper limits of its buy range.
The stock has held up well since triggering a sell signal Feb. 8, when it broke above an upper channel line connecting the highs following its August breakout. The move usually signals that the stock has peaked, but FleetCor is still just 2% off its high.
HomeAway posted a similar gain, rising 0.50, or about 2%, to 30.54, ending an eight-session skid. It's still extended beyond a 24.57 buy point, but it's getting support at the 10-week average.
HomeAway's profit doubled in the fourth quarter, building on gains of 10% and 27% in Q2 and Q3, respectively. Revenue growth has been steady, in a range of 20% to 23% over the past four quarters.
Meanwhile, Proto Labs climbed 0.57 to 46.82, ending a three-session losing streak that saw it briefly pierce its 10-week line. The producer of prototype parts for a wide range of industries is working on a new base. It is not yet clear what type of pattern will emerge.
On the downside, LinkedIn dipped 0.65 to 172.12.
The stock is in its first test of the 10-week line since its January breakout. It is not showing any sell signals.

"Game of Thrones" star Natalie Dormer has been cast as Irene Adler, Sherlock Holmes' presumed dead former lover, on the CBS detective drama. ?
Dormer makes her first appearance on May 9, the season's penultimate episode, and returns the following week in the two-hour finale.
"We're moving to the next chapter in our show -- and in?some?ways, to a previous chapter in Holmes' story," executive producer Rob Doherty said in a statement. His unique adaptation Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic mystery series -- especially changing Dr. Watson's gender -- sparked controversy before "Elementary's" successful premiere.?
"Irene Adler is perhaps the most pivotal relationship in Sherlock's life," added Doherty, "and I can't think of an actress better suited to the challenge than Natalie."
Dormer is developing a reputation for playing iconic characters: Before joining "Game of Thrones" as Margaery Tyrell, she lost her head on "The Tudors" as Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's doomed second wife.
"Elementary" airs at 10 p.m. Thursdays on CBS.

JERUSALEM (AP) ? U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is looking to breathe new life into dormant Mideast peace talks in meetings Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli and Palestinian officials, amid talk of modifying a decade-old Arab plan that's long been greeted with skepticism by the Jewish state.
A day after meeting one-on-one with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Kerry spent the morning of Israel's Holocaust memorial day at Yad Vashem, laying down a red, white and blue wreath at the nation's official monument for the 6 million Jews murdered during World War II. He met privately Monday with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and Israeli President Shimon Peres before a dinner with Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.
Kerry said he believed peace was possible.
"I wouldn't be back here for my multiple-whatever-umpteenth trip here as a senator and secretary, and for my third trip to the region as a secretary already," he told staff at the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem. "I believe that if we can get on a track where people are working in good faith to address the bottom-line concerns, it is possible to be able to make progress and make peace."
Kerry is trying to end a 4?-year stalemate between the Israelis and Palestinians during which they've hardly negotiated peace at all. Making his third trip to the region in a period of two weeks, he has yet to outline any new plan but U.S. officials say he is exploring several ideas to try to corral both sides back into direct talks.
Palestinian and Arab officials have pointed to one idea in particular: An attempt to revive, with modifications, the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative that offered a comprehensive peace with Israel for a pullout from territories captured in the 1967 Mideast war.
The officials say Kerry is seeking greater Arab-Israeli security commitments and softer language on borders as part of the plan.
But key obstacles remain. Israel has not softened its objections and the Palestinians say they turned down a request from Kerry for the proposed changes.
Kerry "welcomes efforts to enhance the constructive role the Arab Peace Initiative can play moving forward," a senior State Department official said, while denying that he was proposing changes to the plan. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of Kerry's orders not to brief reporters.
The Arab initiative, revolutionary when it was introduced by Saudi Arabia's then crown prince, King Abdullah, was later endorsed by the 22-member Arab League at a summit in Beirut. However, it was overshadowed by fierce Israeli-Palestinian fighting at the time and never won Israel's support. The Arab League re-endorsed the offer in 2007 and technically it remains in effect.
In the 1967 war, Israel took control of the West Bank, east Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, Sinai and Golan Heights. Israeli returned the Sinai to Egypt in 1982 in the framework of a peace treaty and pulled out of Gaza unilaterally in 2005. Israel annexed the Golan Heights in 1981 and peace talks with Syria over the territory have repeatedly failed.
Israeli-Palestinian peace talks have been deadlocked since late 2008, in large part over the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. The Palestinians refuse to talk while Israel settles its population on the occupied territories where they want to establish their state. They have demanded that Israel accept the 1967 lines as the basis for a future Palestine, but Netanyahu rejects a return to the 1967 lines and calls for talks with no preconditions.
Abbas spokesman, Nabil Abu Rdeneh, said the Palestinian leader called for a solution based on the 1967 lines in his Sunday meeting with Kerry. He did not say whether the Arab peace initiative was discussed but confirmed Abbas was leaving Monday for talks on the plan at an Arab League meeting in Qatar.
There, a special committee will hold an "urgent meeting" on the subject Monday, said Mohammed Subeih, the Arab League's undersecretary for Palestinian affairs. Qatar's prime minister will chair it and the foreign ministers of key countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the Palestinians will participate.
Subeih said the committee would form a delegation led by Arab League chief Nabil El-Araby and the Qatari prime minister to travel to Washington in the coming weeks with the goal of drawing a new roadmap to "end Israeli occupation."
The chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, said Kerry has been floating the Arab initiative as a possible way out of the deadlock.
Officials say Kerry has proposed two small changes to make it more palatable to Israel. He wants language saying the 1967 lines can be modified through mutual agreement and providing stronger security guarantees.
But Erekat said the plan could not be changed.
"Kerry asked us to change a few words in the Arab Peace Initiative but we refused," he told the Voice of Palestine radio station on Sunday.
Israeli officials refused to comment on the matter.
Israel has rejected a return to the 1967 lines for both security and spiritual reasons, arguing that the frontiers are indefensible and would mean a withdrawal from east Jerusalem, home to the city's holiest Jewish, Muslim and Christian religious sites. In the past, however, Netanyahu has described the peace initiative as a welcome sign of acceptance from the Arab world while refusing to accept its conditions.

LAKE FOREST, Calif. (AP) ? The 27-year-old son of popular evangelical Pastor Rick Warren has committed suicide at his Southern California home, Warren's church and authorities said on Saturday.
Matthew Warren struggled with mental illness, deep depression and suicidal thoughts throughout his life, Saddleback Valley Community Church said in a statement. His body was found in his Mission Viejo home Friday night, said Allison O'Neal, a supervising deputy coroner for Orange County. She declined to release the cause and manner of death pending an autopsy of the young man.
"Despite the best health care available, this was an illness that was never fully controlled and the emotional pain resulted in his decision to take his life," the church statement said.
Rick Warren, the author of the multimillion-selling book "The Purpose Driven Life," said in an email to church staff that he and his wife had enjoyed a fun Friday evening with their son. But their son then returned home to take his life in "a momentary wave of despair."
Over the years, Matthew Warren had been treated by America's best doctors, had received counseling and medication and been the recipient of numerous prayers from others, his father said.
"I'll never forget how, many years ago, after another approach had failed to give relief, Matthew said 'Dad, I know I'm going to heaven. Why can't I just die and end this pain?'" Warren recalled.
Despite that, he said, his son lived for another decade, during which he often reached out to help others.
"You who watched Matthew grow up knew he was an incredibly kind, gentle, and compassionate man," Warren wrote. "He had a brilliant intellect and a gift for sensing who was most in pain or most uncomfortable in a room. He'd then make a bee-line to that person to engage and encourage them."
The elder Warren founded Saddleback Church in 1980, according to his biography on the church website, and over the years watched it grow to 20,000 members. He and his wife, Kay, began by holding Bible studies for people who weren't regular churchgoers.
Matthew Warren was the youngest of their three children.
As Saddleback grew over the years, it spread out from its Lake Forest headquarters, 65 miles southeast of Los Angeles, adding several other campuses and ministries around Southern California.
The church says it now offers more than 200 community ministries and support groups for parents, families, children, couples, prisoners, addicts, and people living with HIV, depression and other illnesses.
In 2008, the church sponsored a presidential forum with Barack Obama and John McCain. Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney were invited to a similar forum last fall, but Warren canceled it several days beforehand, saying the campaign had become too uncivil.
Warren was named the top newsmaker of the year for 2009 by the Religion Newswriters Association. He gained attention that year with his invocation at Obama's inauguration, as well as with comments he made in the aftermath of California's Proposition 8, which overturned gay marriage.
LONDON (AP) ? There may be nearly four times as many people infected with the tropical disease dengue globally than was previously believed, according to a new study.
The World Health Organization has estimated there are about 50 million to 100 million cases of dengue, also known as "break-bone fever," every year. But new research puts the number at around 390 million ? though about two-thirds of those people have only mild illness and don't need medical attention. The study was published online Sunday in the journal Nature.
The data won't change how patients are handled but could prompt a speedier search for a vaccine for the mosquito-borne disease. The study was funded by the Wellcome Trust, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and others.
WHO said it wasn't surprised by the higher estimates. "We fully agree the spectrum of dengue is very wide and there was every chance we were missing cases," said Raman Velayudhan, the agency's global dengue coordinator. WHO was not involved in the new research.
"The new numbers are not out of the realm of what was expected," said Jeremy Farrar, director of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam, one of the study authors. He said the figures came from analyzing more evidence than was used in the past and included other factors that influence dengue.
Dengue causes symptoms including fever and severe joint pains. The disease mostly affects people in Asia, Africa and Latin America though it has also recently popped up in parts of Western Europe and the U.S.
There are four kinds of dengue and catching it once doesn't ensure immunity; subsequent infections raise the risk of severe dengue and may include hemorrhaging. The death rate is usually below 1 percent if patients get treated quickly, but can rise to 10 percent if not.
Clarence Tam, an infectious diseases expert at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said more research was needed on the significance of the nearly 300 million people who have mild dengue.
"Whether these cases are an important source of dengue infection for others is not well known," he said. "But there is clearly more dengue in the world than we thought."

A study led by researchers from the University's School of Psychology, published recently in the Journal of Neuroscience, has shown that punishment can act as a performance enhancer in a similar way to monetary reward.
Dr Marios Philiastides, who led the work, said: "This work reveals important new information about how the brain functions that could lead to new methods of diagnosing neural development disorders such as autism, ADHD and personality disorders, where decision-making processes have been shown to be compromised."
The Nottingham study aimed at looking at how the efficiency with which we make decisions based on ambiguous sensory information such as visual or auditory is affected by the potential for, and severity of, anticipated punishment.
To investigate this, they asked participants in the study to perform a simple perceptual task asking them to judge whether a blurred shape behind a rainy window is a person or something else.
They punished incorrect decisions by imposing monetary penalties. At the same time, they measured the participants' brain activity in response to different amounts of monetary punishment. Brain activity was recorded, non-invasively, using an EEG machine which detects and amplifies brain signals from the surface of the scalp through a set of small electrodes embedded in a swim-like cap fitted on the participants' head.
They found that participants' performance increased systematically as the amount of punishment increased, suggesting that punishment acts as a performance enhancer in a similar way to monetary reward.
At the neural level, the academics identified multiple and distinct brain activations induced by punishment and distributed throughout different areas of the brain. Crucially, the timing of these activations confirmed that the punishment does not influence the way in which the brain processes the sensory evidence but does have an impact on the brain's decision maker responsible for decoding sensory information at a later stage in the decision-making process.
Finally, they showed that those participants who showed the greatest improvements in performance also showed the biggest changes in brain activity. This is a key finding as it provides a potential route to study differences between individuals and their personality traits in order to characterise why some may respond better to reward and punishment than others.
A more thorough understanding of the influence of punishment on decision-making and how we make choices could lead to useful information on how to use incentive-based motivation to encourage certain behaviour.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? The first lady and the vice president are among the latest public figures to have their private information posted on a mysterious website, and the Secret Service has joined the investigation into the postings that include documents from people ranging from rapper Jay-Z to the head of the FBI.
The site includes Social Security numbers, credit reports, addresses and phone numbers.
It bears an Internet suffix originally assigned to the Soviet Union, and many of the pages feature unflattering pictures or taunting messages of the person featured. Others whose information is posted include pop star Britney Spears, Attorney General Eric Holder, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Both the FBI and the Secret Service said Tuesday they were investigating the site.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said he had "no assessments to offer" on the situation and referred questions to the Secret Service, which wouldn't provide further details.
The site grew from 11 names to 20 in the first 24 hours since it became public, with its operator adding additional features to count the number of visitors and a link to a Twitter account. It offers no explanation about why the targets were selected or how the information was obtained. The Twitter account includes an anti-police message in Russian.
Social Security numbers posted on Jay-Z, Mel Gibson and others matched records in public databases. Social Security numbers are not public records, although they used to be included in some court filings. Many courts require the information be redacted from filings since the numbers can be used to steal a person's identity and open credit accounts in their name.
President Barack Obama told ABC News that he was aware of the investigation into the possible breach of his wife's data.
"We should not be surprised that if we've got hackers that want to dig in and have a lot of resources, that they can access this information," Obama said. "Again, not sure how accurate but ... you've got Web sites out there that tell people's credit card info. That's how sophisticated they are."
Online security expert Marc Maiffret said sensitive information can often be gleaned from a single database, but the varied nature of the people targeted made the site's motives less clear.
Maiffret, the chief technology officer for Carlsbad, Calif.-based security firm BeyondTrust, said the site contained information that if accurate could be very damaging to its targets.
"Pretty much everything comes falling down once you have a Social Security number," he said. "Once somebody has that, the person has the keys to everything."
The information could be used to shut down accounts and utilities, although Maiffret said celebrities and government officials have more resources to protect themselves and their financial companies will likely be guarding their accounts in the wake of the site's postings.
Average consumers should consider adding a second password to their accounts to protect against hackers who have access to their Social Security numbers and other financial info.
Los Angeles police also are investigating, trying to determine how information was obtained, including the address and credit report of Police Chief Charlie Beck.
Beck told reporters Tuesday that detectives would work to bring anyone responsible for posting the info online to justice.
"We will vigorously pursue the individuals that have made me a victim and have made a number of other people that are in the public eye victims," he said.
He acknowledged that many hackers operate outside the United States, but said there is often a connection stateside that can lead to prosecutions.
Frank Preciado, assistant officer in charge at the LAPD online section, said the postings are illegal. He said the information on the police chief was likely taken from what is supposed to be a secure database of city employees.
The site's page on Beck includes a reference to former officer Christopher Dorner, who apparently committed suicide after he killed four people during a multi-day rampage. Beck's page included the message "YouCantCornerTheDorner" and an image of a woman protesting police corruption.

After a week of rumors, this doesn’t come as a huge surprise anymore: Google today settled the privacy case brought against it by 37 states and the District of Columbia. In total, Google will pay $7 million dollars, a number that isn’t going to cause a lot of sleepless nights at company headquarters. Every state will get a share of the $7 million, so even the eight lead states that investigated this matter for the last two years will only get $520,823. The other states will get roughly $147,000. In 2010, Google was accused of collecting some private Wi-Fi payload data while its Street View vehicles were on the road and taking images in the U.S. and Europe. Google first denied that this ever happened, but the company later confirmed that this was indeed the case, though it also argued that this was “a mistake.” In 2006, Google argued, one of its engineers developed some code to collect this data for an experimental project and this code somehow found its way into the Street View code, as well. ?While the $7 million is significant, the importance of this agreement goes beyond financial terms. Consumers have a reasonable expectation of privacy. This agreement recognizes those rights and ensures that Google will not use similar tactics in the future to collect personal information without permission from unsuspecting consumers,? Connecticut’s Attorney General George?Jepsen said in a statement today. The terms of the settlement also state that Google will “engage in a comprehensive employee education program about the privacy or confidentiality of user data.” The company also has to run a nationwide campaign to teach consumers about how to secure their wireless networks. This campaign, the settlement states, will “include a YouTube video instructing users ‘how-to’ encrypt their wireless networks,” as well as “daily online ads for two years promoting the video; a Google Public Policy Blog post explaining the value of encrypting wireless networks and linking to the video; half-page advertisements in national and state newspapers; and production of an educational pamphlet about online safety and privacy which incorporates information about WiFi security.” Unsurprisingly, the settlement also states that Google has to destroy all the private data its Street View cars collected between 2008 and March 2010.

After a week of rumors, this doesn’t come as a huge surprise anymore: Google today settled the privacy case brought against it by 37 states and the District of Columbia. In total, Google will pay $7 million dollars, a number that isn’t going to cause a lot of sleepless nights at company headquarters. Every state will get a share of the $7 million, so even the eight lead states that investigated this matter for the last two years will only get $520,823. The other states will get roughly $147,000. In 2010, Google was accused of collecting some private Wi-Fi payload data while its Street View vehicles were on the road and taking images in the U.S. and Europe. Google first denied that this ever happened, but the company later confirmed that this was indeed the case, though it also argued that this was “a mistake.” In 2006, Google argued, one of its engineers developed some code to collect this data for an experimental project and this code somehow found its way into the Street View code, as well. ?While the $7 million is significant, the importance of this agreement goes beyond financial terms. Consumers have a reasonable expectation of privacy. This agreement recognizes those rights and ensures that Google will not use similar tactics in the future to collect personal information without permission from unsuspecting consumers,? Connecticut’s Attorney General George?Jepsen said in a statement today. The terms of the settlement also state that Google will “engage in a comprehensive employee education program about the privacy or confidentiality of user data.” The company also has to run a nationwide campaign to teach consumers about how to secure their wireless networks. This campaign, the settlement states, will “include a YouTube video instructing users ‘how-to’ encrypt their wireless networks,” as well as “daily online ads for two years promoting the video; a Google Public Policy Blog post explaining the value of encrypting wireless networks and linking to the video; half-page advertisements in national and state newspapers; and production of an educational pamphlet about online safety and privacy which incorporates information about WiFi security.” Unsurprisingly, the settlement also states that Google has to destroy all the private data its Street View cars collected between 2008 and March 2010.
